2018, the Houphouët-Boigny Year

The Félix Houphouët-Boigny Foundation for the Search for Peace commemorates, throughout 2018, the twenty-fifth anniversary of the death of the Father of the Ivorian Nation.

She wants to remember, with all Ivorians, the exceptional fate of Felix Houphouet-Boigny. And to make better known its thought, its historical action, its work of peace, to promote the culture of peace and the national reconciliation in Ivory Coast.

But this commemoration also concerns the foreign populations living in Côte d’Ivoire, and all women and men who love peace.

It will include scientific activities, with the holding of an international symposium on the peace work of Félix Houphouët-Boigny and the awarding of the prize for research, the organization of conferences, the edition and the dedication of books; festive activities, with concerts, exhibitions, theatrical performances; sports activities and religious activities (masses of thanksgiving, ecumenical prayers).

By commemorating Houphouët, Ivorians want to reconnect with one of the major elements of their national identity, to replace the culture of peace with the culture of violence, to promote the values of citizenship as respect for human rights and democracy which are for many in the peaceful character of a society.
